Representational art

A first for me today with Marcail producing recognisable representations of people complete with eyes, nose, mouth and hair in one and an ear in the other.  Another little milestone.

With a left ear; not van Gogh then!

In At The Deep End

We’re only 2½ years late, that’s not bad is it?  I mean it’s nothing in defence contract or major public infrastructure circles.  Nor, come to think of it, is it much longer than you wait for the average GP appointment…

But, today was the day for Marcail’s FIRST SWIM.  The three of us went up to the Mariner Centre in Camelon and got in the pool.  She did really, really well.  There must be such a lot to take in, what with all the people, the big deep pool and the totally new environment.  In no time at all she was lifting her feet up and relying on her float to keep her up.  A little reserved and nervous, but I’m sure the next time will see her get off to a flying start.

Anyway, here she is from just a few days ago.  She’s such a girl now, the toddler has almost completely gone.  Getting to be quite the independent mind too, though going through a phase of almost instant self-contradiction.  “I want a yoghurt.”  “Here you go then.”  “NO!!!  I don’t waaaant a yoghurt.”

Munchkin just a few days ago

Roll with it

Last night with mummy was the first forward roll.  We need to work on things like, not rolling straight into solid hurty furniture type stuff and not rolling towards a wood stove which is at about 300 Centigrade!  Apart from that, good going.

Goggle box

imageTelly is the new black. Munchkin is developing an increasing repertoire of programmes that she needs to keep up with!

Most of them are watched from the closest possible geographic location. It’s a mystery she can make anything out with the foreshortening.

Getting in to pot

Every parent has to deal with life’s issues at some point or another.  Whether it’s the first dodgy boyfriend, crashing the car or coming home drunk and throwing up all over the newly laid pale cream carpet; well OK, that was our dog and it wasn’t drunk.  So it was for us this weekend.  We were on a trip to the highlands, Kingussie to be exact, with a load of friends from university and after.Continue reading

Tonight Matthew…

..I shall attempt to eat the entire world (if the LHC doesn’t beat me to it that is).

I have to say, it was my kind of dinner.  A small savoury main course to start then a much larger pudding to finish!  Marcail ploughed through Deb’s chicken stew in no time flat.  I could barely shovel it in fast enough and if I even thought about pausing there was immediate complaint from the diner.Continue reading

Exersaucer

Standing room only

So, I mentioned that Marcail had been quite taken with her exersaucer in Calgary.  Well, she was really quite taken with it.  So much so in fact that we really thought we should get her one now that we are home.  Sunday just past, then, we made a trip back to Edinburgh for DIY, food and to go to Mothercare who had the one we wanted in stock.  There aren’t that many of them to choose from but this one seemed, to us anyway, to be the pick of the crop. A place of my own

Saturday night was a big night in the Begbie household.  While we were in Canada, Marcail had got used to sleeping in a bigger space on account of being in a travel cot / play pen rather than being in her moses basket as she had been till we left.  The first night, which was actually in a hotel at Heathrow airport Continue reading
