Day three: Family fun, another first and … disappointment

It was a big day today.  Marcail’s first recreational car ride, and it was to go on a shopping expedition. I really hope this Set for a car rideis not a long term, major, strategic error!  If we get a few years down the line and all she ever seems to do is shop, shop and shop, then maybe this post should be passed to the psychology community for the future health of society.  But dear reader, there is a lesson to be learnt here too.  This was Marcail’s first experience of the bitter taste of consumer disappointment.

We had two errands to run.  First to get her ‘travel system’  from the Corstorphine & Raeburn Pram Centre, which is an absolutely fantastic shop.  If you live in the area and you want to get a pram or pushchair I would heartily recommend them.  It is one of a dying breed of shop, staffed by people who (whisper it)  Little feetknow what they are talking about and give good honest advice.  We had ordered everything a while ago and were just in to collect the rest of the looty which they had been keeping in their warehouse now that she is here.

The second errand was off to get bamboo nappies for little miss.  We are using eco-friendly disposables, as planned, for the first couple of weeks to get into a routine.  After friends had a great experience with bamboo nappies, and I gained eternal love status from Mrs. B by giving her a bamboo face flannel that is soft without needing to be tumble dried, we decided firmly on bamboo.  We ordered 50% from Motherease and 50% from TotsBots.  The former is a Canadian company and the latter Scottish; we should consult to the UN we should!

All this was ordered from another shop in the same vein as above, a wonderful place at the foot of Broughton Street called Seesaw. We got a message from them saying that they were having supply problems and only half the nappies we had ordered were available but they could make the remainder up in organic cotton.  And there we Ready for my close-up Mr. Demillehave, the first day shopping and the first bitter taste of retail disappointment.  But, long story short, it turns out the shop is in real trouble with trade.  They get a lot of people who come in, use them for advice and a touchy feely try out, then by everything off the internet.  It’s a real shame, whether the internet is the main cause or not, to loose such a great shop.

The day picked up later on, with another FIRST.  Today, Marcail had her very first milky burp!   Ata girl, you go there! It’s a bit of a milestone as it means mum is getting her milk in and Marcail is successfully getting it out of mum.  She seems to be getting the hang of this feeding lark, and is certainly cottoning on to the fact that Mum = milk bar.  When she woke up this evening as soon as she sawDebs the feeding mouth came on and she started smacking her lips together.

She’s got a bit of infant jaundice too, so we’re trying to get her more sunlight to help.  Now that we have the pram travel system there’s no excuse.  We were off round to the park this afternoon, the whole family.  Doglet had a good run and a sniff and we even made it home before the thunder storm.
