We’re back

In both all senses.  We’ve been back from Canada since the 5th of January.  We’ve been back on-line since about a week after that.  And now, dear reader, we’re back at the blog.

So, what’s been happening I hear you cry!  Sorry, speak up at the back there, you’re supposed to be asking what’s been happening.

Well, we had the most fantastic time over in Canada, Calgary to be exact.  We stayed with Debs best friend since forever, DL, and her husband Terry

Donna-Lee and Prince Terry

in their gorgeous house for nigh on a month.  They were such great hosts and never made us (not even me) feel unwelcome at all.  So guys, thanks again.  It was awesome.

Grandpa, Marcail, and her Santa hat

Marcail got to meet all her rellies while we were out there, Granny and Grandpa of course, aunt, uncle, cousins, great aunts and uncles,…  It was quite the experience being there with the new family.  Everywhere we went there was a procession of new relatives ready to shower our little girl with affection and gifts. In return she was quite simply, a gem.  Whoever took her she settled with them and just spent her efforts trying to charm the pants off them. Even on the flights, she was more interested in snooping at what was going on than she was in getting upset and crying.

Grandma and Marcail

Thank heavens!  I’ve been on the plane and thought, who the hell brought that thing on a plane, will it never shut up?  Still, there’s always next time…

While we were out there Marcail came on in leaps and bounds.  Still we were in Canada for a couple of days shy of 4 weeks, so at 5 months you expect a lot of changes in that time.  She grew out of half her clothes and grew into several toys during the trip.  One thing she grew to love was her “exersaucer”; just one of the mountain of toys, accessories and general kiddy paraphenalia that DL and Terry had borrowed for us to use on the trip.

OG Exersaucer

To start, she was a little too young for it, I think.  She didn’t really interact with it and just kinda sat there.  Once she’s got over the depressurisation of the flight and the bubbles had stopped coming out of her ears, though, she was a lot better.  Her situational awareness improved out of all recognition, as did hand eye coordination and just attention span.  By the time we were leaving to come home, she’d sit and play with things and be quite content. Feet, that was another discovery on the holiday, as was the ability to have enough upper body control to sit and reach for them.  In summary, I guess we went with an infant and came back with a baby.

Feeeeet

That was the gist of the holiday in a nutshell.  I will get round to writing more about it in due course, and there are a lot more photos that can be put up on here or a more appropriate sharing site, so keep an eye out for that but don’t hold your breath.  People tend to go a somewhat disturbing shade of blue when they hold their breath waiting for me to do that sort of thing and I really, really, couldn’t face another coroner’s enquiry so soon after the last one.   Besides, it’s nearly my bed time and there’s important napping to do.

Whoa, yeah! Not now please. Snug!
