In a small, and intimate ceremony, attended by only a few of her closest friends and relatives, Marcail Erin Begbie was today entered on the register of
births, deaths and marriages in the town of South Queensferry. Details from this intimate event have not been widely publicised, but one excited onlooker was apparently heard to say “Excuse me, is this the way to the ferry for Inchcolme Island?”, whilst another, clearly agitated by events, called “Big Issue! Big Issue!”
For the young woman at the centre of events it was clearly a traumatic and emotional experience. Shortly after the conclusion of the formal proceedings
she had to be ushered immediately to a quiet corner by her mother. There she was given a nutritious drink to calm her nerves and rebuild her strength. For her Scottish father too, it was a difficult event “Nine quid. That’s a hundred and eight shillings. For a print out on a single sheet of A4! I feel violated”
The party later celebrated by adjourning to a nearby shopping mall to browse baby clothes, look at expensive new gadgets and consume expensive american coffee from light brown paper cups.
